dmarley: Fingerpainting (Do Not Disturb)

And while I'm up at 2 am, I might as well continue to spam about my life.

I went to the doctor about three weeks ago because I was dizzy, and found out that I had an ear infection. I took a course of penicillin and seemed to get better. But I kept having the same sensation of fullness and drainage in my ear, and on Sunday had a dizzy spell so severe that I couldn't aim myself through a door properly. So, I went back to the doctor yesterday and discovered that I was not only running a fever, which I hadn't noticed, but that there was still some infection lurking behind my eardrum. So, it's stronger antibiotics and a nasal spray, which I suspect is keeping me awake.

Then, I got home today from lunch and surprised Greebo crouching in front of the video shevles, caught in the act of spraying. Only not. I forgot all my cat-psychology knowledge and yelled at him, but he didn't move, and I realized eventually that he was trying to pee, and not managing it. I was so tired and run-down that I actually went into denial for about five minutes about the necessity of waking Boo up from her nap and trudging back into the rain to take him to the vet. Luckily for Greebo, I did call, and a nice lady told me, that, yeah, I should bring him in. Like, now.

Sure enough, he had what they used to call FUS and now call something I can't remember, and his urinary tract was completely blocked. The vet said his bladder wasn't badly distented, which means we caught it fairly early. They put him under and cleared him out, and he was awake and recovering before I even got back home. He'll have to stay at the vet's for a day or two while he's got the catheter in, but he'll be all right. As Boo told the vet's assisstant, "Greebo staying to make him better." :)

As I said to [livejournal.com profile] tingler above, I knew in my gut that I was going to have to take him in ASAP, I just had to back up my brain and take a second run at it before the reality sank in. But it's nice to know that I did do the right thing, and that Greebo was lucky that I spotted him not-peeing as early as I did. He's back home now, enjoying his special diet of prescription cat food and lounging around in sunbeams. It would have been a pretty tough piece of irony to have lost him after spending so much time of late worrying about Sylvester. So, yeah, the jelly is in the right place. :)
