Me, My Cat, and I

And while I'm up at 2 am, I might as well continue to spam about my life.
I went to the doctor about three weeks ago because I was dizzy, and found out that I had an ear infection. I took a course of penicillin and seemed to get better. But I kept having the same sensation of fullness and drainage in my ear, and on Sunday had a dizzy spell so severe that I couldn't aim myself through a door properly. So, I went back to the doctor yesterday and discovered that I was not only running a fever, which I hadn't noticed, but that there was still some infection lurking behind my eardrum. So, it's stronger antibiotics and a nasal spray, which I suspect is keeping me awake.
Then, I got home today from lunch and surprised Greebo crouching in front of the video shevles, caught in the act of spraying. Only not. I forgot all my cat-psychology knowledge and yelled at him, but he didn't move, and I realized eventually that he was trying to pee, and not managing it. I was so tired and run-down that I actually went into denial for about five minutes about the necessity of waking Boo up from her nap and trudging back into the rain to take him to the vet. Luckily for Greebo, I did call, and a nice lady told me, that, yeah, I should bring him in. Like, now.
Sure enough, he had what they used to call FUS and now call something I can't remember, and his urinary tract was completely blocked. The vet said his bladder wasn't badly distented, which means we caught it fairly early. They put him under and cleared him out, and he was awake and recovering before I even got back home. He'll have to stay at the vet's for a day or two while he's got the catheter in, but he'll be all right. As Boo told the vet's assisstant, "Greebo staying to make him better." :)

Date: 2005-02-03 01:11 am (UTC)I'm so sorry about the ear infection. Hope you've beat it back this time. I also hope Boo isn't prone to them. I had five that had them constantly in the winter time until they were five or six years old. (The youngest has just recently reached that stage.)
You are soo brave to wake up the baby and go back out into the rain! That's heroic. We lost a kitty that way when I was about 8 or 9 because we didn't catch it in time, so go you!
Now we need a Boo report.

Like I said, I went through some serious denial for about five minutes. :) Part of the instant denial, though, was the initial instant realization that I was going to have to take him right away, and my brain just shut down in attempt to refuse the reality. As it turned out, I did get to let Boo sleep for another forty-five minutes because my vet is open so late, and they were really understanding about giving me a later appointment so I didn't have to rush around.
The most recent Boo news is that her mental superpowers are developing nicely. Yesterday morning we had our usual "discussion" about orange juice, with her wanting it right away and me saying she couldn't have it until after breakfast (otherwise she'll just have orange juice and no breakfast). So she switched her demand to milk and water. I filled two sippy cups and set them in front of her. It was only about five minutes later than I sat down with her and noticed with horror that the "water" seemed awfully cloudy. I picked up the cup in panic, then realized that it was, indeed, full of undiluted orange juice. I suppose I don't really have to worry, though, until she starts levitating the orange juice jug up the stairs to her bedroom.

Date: 2005-02-03 07:00 am (UTC)I sympathize. This damn TMJ is killing me. Grrrr. It hurts to chew, so I guess I'm on soft foods for a while.

Date: 2005-02-07 07:52 am (UTC)I appear to have come down with a sinus infection on top of the TMJ, so everything from the neck up hurts. :(

Date: 2005-02-06 12:32 pm (UTC)Greebo's back at home now, being pampered and fussed over, so all seems okay with him. I gave him his first antibiotic pill today while he was sprawled in a sunbeam, and he just gave one half-hearted protesting cough and went back to sunning himself and purring.
