Well, according to my own journal page, I haven't updated since the 28th of October. Can they revoke my geek card for that?

Needless to say, a lot has happened in the intervening three months, not least of which is that, yea verily, we have moved into the new house. That's pretty much the reason I haven't had time for LJ or e-mail or indeed the internet (today was the first day I had logged on in something over two months). After my last log, my days were spent packing, packing, packing. That or painting, painting, painting.

It's really too bad I didn't keep a good log during the moving process, because it was quite an experience. In the end, it took two separate days and two 17-foot trucks to move all our stuff, and the second truck couldn't quite fit everything in. The movers sent me a little information packet which included a "box estimate" table to help determine how many boxes would be needed for a typical move. According to this table, a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment would require 139 boxes. I laughed and laughed and laughed....

Splitting the move into two days was the best thing we could have done, though. The moving estimator suggested that we move only the books and bookcases one day, then move everything else a day or two later. It worked out wonderfully, because we got the bulk of the books and bookcases unpacked and out of the way before the rest of the stuff arrived, and considering that the books accounted for close to half the boxes, that was a Good Thing.

Boo loves the new house. Her room is all bright and sunny and has lots of room for her run around in. She also loves having a backyard, and usually requests to go outside a couple of times a day. We had some snow showers all day yesterday, and she thought the snowflakes on her face were great.

Anyway, that's more or less the highlights of the last three months, probably most concisely summed up by saying: We moved into the new house and it's really cool.

Oh, yeah, and that I missed LJ a lot. I'm glad to be back!

Welcome back! I wondered how the move was going and if that was why you vanished. :)

Yep. I think my mom thought it was a bit weird that I started packing three months before the move--before we'd actually closed on the house, even--but by the time moving day rolled around she'd seen why. ;)

Another reason, though, was that all that heaving around of boxes of books and gripping paint brushes and so on made my until-then-relatively-tolerable tendonitis hurt like hell. I was wearing wrist stabilizers 24/7 and lidocaine patches 12 hours a day, and the couple of times I tried typing I had to give it up pretty quick. Luckily the tendonitis has gotten a lot better since I quit aggravating it 12 hours a day, and I don't even have to wear "The Claw" (as my husband calls it :)) anymore. So, yea typing!

Congrats on the move, but...two months without getting online? Two *months?* Sheesh. I don't know if I've gone two *days* since 1996. *g*

Welcome back!

Yeah, I miss those days, when it'd be more like 3 hours between log-ins than 3 months. :) And if I ever figure out a way to knit and type at the same time....

I love the house. It still has some *cough* minor problems that need to be repaired--leak in the roof, leak in the upstairs bathroom, trees growing in the gutters--but it's very comfortable being here. It's quiet and peaceful, and I think we've all really taken to the place. Now all we need to do is get the boxes out of all the corners, and we'll be set. :)

She's back!! Yay!!! Numfar, do your stuff! I was seriously just wondering when you were coming back. I figured you were dealing with the new house and all, but golly, it's been awhile!

Boo likes her room! And the house! And the yard!! Yay!! This is very cool. Now all you need is a dog! (And no, I'm not offering you mine. The kids would murder me in my sleep!)

I second everything E said.

I was thinking about you this weekend -- your ears must have been burning! I was emailing BJ, and we were talking about the SSC-ers on LJ, and I said, "J's there' too, but she hasn't posted in a while. She's got a new house that I figure is keeping her pretty busy..." *g*

Glad to hear from you; glad that the house is good and Miss Boo is doing well. :-)

So, how many cartons of books did you wind up having?

BJ! Is it too much to hope that she's on LJ herself?

Final box tally:

Books--350 boxes
Video Tapes--50 boxes
Everything else--300 boxes

So, all in all, there were about 700 boxes. And there are still about 100 or so that I haven't yet unpacked. :) Mind you, a lot of the boxes were pretty small. For the books especially, I didn't use anything bigger than a 12" x 12" x 9" box, but when they were all in a pile it was a pretty darn impressive pile.

I think the scariest thing I discovered while packing was exactly how much yarn I had. I had most of it in a--relatively small--cabinet, then some in baskets, then some in boxes in the closet, and so on, but when I got it all together I was suddenly confronted with a stack of those 18" x 24" underbed boxes that reached from floor to ceiling and then some. I have sworn not to buy any new yarn unless I absolutely positively must have a weight or color I don't own, which is how Boo has ended up with two new hats in pale lime green and mauve.

Alas, yes. I've tried to get her and Carol M. both over here, with no success. *sigh*

But I see BJ every spring, when I'm down that way for Scarborough Faire. Her younger daughter loves the Rogues, and Beej herself enjoys watching the glassblower practice his art, so they come with me usually at least a couple of times during the season.

Re: 700 boxes -- Ay yi yi. Holy hernia, Batman!!! I think I'm going to mention that to mein papa, who helped me with my last move and was greatly distressed by my 20-some cartons of books. (I know from the number of cartons that it takes to move them all that I've maintained a fairly constant volume of books over the past 20 years, although the list of titles and subjects has evolved.)

Re: hats -- :-))) I bet she's a doll!

I want a dog. I have a not-so-secret desire for a huge slobbery dog, all the more tempting because our backyard is completely fenced in.

What I do have, though, is a pal who owns a wonderful dog who's been trained especially to cope with kids. She was nearly certified as an officially kid-friendly dog, but she was so excited at the tests that, while she did all the complicated commands, she wouldn't sit! She's absolutely adorable and smart as a whip, so Boo will have a very good canine Auntie. :)

Hiya! Glad to be back!

I'll have you know that I think of you every time I pass by a toy store. :) As always, I continue my quest for Snape toys, but all the places where I found them no longer had them when I went back. :( I even had my mother searching through the Toys R Us in Chattanooga for me, but no dice. I had a moment of hope when the local Big Lots got in a bunch of teeny action figures, but they were all Harry, Hagrid, Dumbledore, and Ron. Sigh. I did, though, pick up one little trinket, which I can either mail or pass along at Media*West, if you're planning on coming this year (which I hope you are!) I'm pretty psyched this year, because I actually scored on the room lottery. Maybe I can knit up some Potter scarves to flog, in my copious spare time....:)

You're very dedicated (or something! *g*), hon. I'd forgotten that conversation completely...

And yes, I'm coming to MediaWest, wouldn't miss it for the world.

If I could drop a hint, I'd love a well-made Slytherin scarf and would be happy to pay for materials etc. - there's just something about the green and silver! ;)

Eek!
