Just wanted to mention that we are all back home now, and our household is (temporarily) the larger for a mommy cat and two black kittens. Er, anyone want to adopt a cat?

Al is still holding up. I should probably mention, in the interest of clarity about the whole mess, that Al's been estranged from his parents and brother for several years. So, while he's sad and upset about his father's death, you can probably imagine that the situation didn't make for an especially cozy family week. Anyway, he's back home now, and what happens next, for better or for worse, has pretty much been taken out of his hands.

One nice thing has been all the support he's gotten from his non-family. His co-workers have sent a pile of cards, and even chipped in to help cover his gas costs. Our friends have, as always, been the best ever, and my family--as they, too, always are--was right there to help. Thanks, guys. :)

In the interests of not making it seem as though my life has been nothing but gloom (as I fear the majority of my recent journal posts have possibly indicated), here are some good things that have happened of late:

Boo's shoe size is now 5 1/2, a size and a half larger than it was six months ago. She also appears to have grown about a half-inch, and some of her clothes are noticably shorter on her. Go Cheetos!

I have written approximately two pages of fan fiction, which is two pages more than I have written in months.

I have incriminating pictures of Boo wearing a potty seat around her neck, which I intend to hoard for her teenage years.

Because I stayed with my mother all week, I was able to skive off Mommy duties and go see Prisoner of Azkaban on opening night. I should probably devote an entire post to it, and I might do so in future, but suffice it to say that once I wrapped my brain around the changes from both book and from the previous movie-verse, I liked them very much. After all, someone finally remembered that Harry has perpetually messy hair.

Read a pretty good series of vampire books by Charlaine Harris, recommended by Erin Lasgalen. I'm not particularly fond of vampire fiction, but these were quite readable. It might be considered a flaw that they bear some plot and theme similarities to Laurell Hamilton's Anita Blake books, but while it nagged me a bit, I still enjoyed them for what they were.

Well, I think that'll do for now. If nothing else, it made me feel better. :)

Sorry to hear about Al's Dad! :(

Glad to hear that Boo is growing.

I loved the third HP movie. I think it's the best so far. You could really see Harry begin to grow up. They had to collapse a lot and squeeze some stuff out, or it would have been a really long movie, but I think they did a pretty good job. I want to see it again!

We should get together for lunch sometime, but it'll have to be in July, because June is nuts.

...our household is (temporarily) the larger for a mommy cat and two black kittens.

Last summer I fostered three motherless kittens from four or five weeks old. Let me know if you have any questions; I may be able to help. At least I can provide moral support, if you need it. Post some pictures, too, if you can!

uh-oh, blank brain

On the spot I couldn't remember exactly what I wanted to write about.

First, all of our lives are a little dimmer without Jay. He was a colorful character, and we shall not look on his like again.

Yes! The messy hair! Now how difficult was it to put a little mousse in there! I loved the lighting, the slopes, and the long walkway thing. The walks and talks with Lupin were cool, but I feel Snape didn't get enough airtime [sigh]. If I hadn't read all the books and I hadn't seen the first two movies, I would have been very confused.

Here's the thing. If they weren't going to explain the stag, why put the stag in the movie? All of the other patronems didn't look like anything but force fields or something.

Hope you and all your associated mammals are well as can be expected.

Now I remember!

It's great to see the infamous photo again, after all these years!

What are the chances you could scan that one photo of Fartscream in trenchcoat and evil gleam?
