Spent the day with [livejournal.com profile] coreopsis nattering about fannish things, and she has indirectly inspired me to update once in a while to keep in touch with all of you folks. So, here at last is this very belated post about Boo. At least I waited until I had good news for sure. :)

Some more of Boo's tests came back, and it looked like she was, indeed, low on growth hormones. We took her to see a pediatric endocrinologist last week (and of course [livejournal.com profile] ladypredator was out of town that day. That's been our luck so far.) The endocrinologist said, essentially, that she honestly doesn't think anything's wrong with her. We have a follow-up appointment in August, but she thinks Boo has just taken a little growth hiatus, and will likely get back to it within a few months. She says it happens, and that even the bone-age test and the dip in hormones aren't necessarily alarming. She says that some babies, once they start moving around more (ie start walking) and get pickier about what they eat, will slow down or stop growing, and that the dip in growth hormone levels are an effect of this, and not a cause.

Her only suggestion was that we take her to see a dietician, and we have an appointment at Vandy on Friday (11:00am at the Medical Arts Building, [livejournal.com profile] ladypredator. I can call you when we get out. :)) Essentially, she thinks Boo might need more fatty stuff in her diet. I've been so conscientious about her diet, not letting her have things with too much sugar and salt in them, that I think I've shorted her on her carby fatty stuff. (I felt horrible about it for a few days, hence the not posting until I'd gotten over some of the guilt about worrying that I'd been starving my daughter.) The basic idea is to start sneaking half and half into her milk, corn oil onto her veggies, and more carbs into her diet. When Al made a crack about feeding her Cheetos, the doc said, "Actually, yes, those are a great source of calories."

Who'd a thunk?

::relieved sigh:: That's great news. I've been thinking about you, and wondering what the doctor had to say.

Yay!!

Great news!

We're taking Brendan to the doctor tomorrow but it's probably nothing. He had a fever last night but it's gone now and his nose has been running. Still, I'd rather have them tell us "He's just teething" than risk ignoring something serious.

First off, glad to hear about Boo. I can imagine how worried you are.

And that [livejournal.com profile] coreopsis seems like a rather fun gal to hang with. *g*

Man, the maternal guilt just never goes away, does it? If it's not one thing, it's another. Just gotta get used to it, I reckon. So give that baby some Cheetos. *g*

BTW, I found Boo's bubble gun last night on top of the fridge, so we have a good excuse to get together again without waiting so long this time. :-)
