DragonCon--Day 4 (Monday)

The last day of the con. Sniffle.
Contrary to usual proceedure, we were all up and moving our stuff out by 11. Todd had wrangled us a late checkout time, but we didn't really need it. Albert and I got our stuff down to the car in two trips, then went to make a last pass through the Exhibition Hall and Dealer's Room. I bought two Stargate pins that I'd been lusting after since seeing them on other people, but was thwarted in my purchase of the R. Lee Ermey Motivational Doll by the dealer having already packed up and left. I did get a $10 scoop of dice from Steve Jackson Games, which was a pretty sweet deal considering that a set of 7 D&D dice goes for $4 and up. I did get way more 6-, 10-, and 20-siders than I really needed, but I also filled in some missing 4-, 8- and 12-siders that I did need, so it turned out to be a good bargain.
Since the Art Show didn't close until 5, I called my sister for the first time since Friday and she came and got us for lunch. We ate at an Indian restaurant with an excellent buffet, then she drove us back to the con. We registered for next year's con, then, having nothing much better to do, we collapsed on chairs in the lounge area and waited for 4:30. It was then that I discovered that I'd lost my knitting row counter. I made a half-assed stab at asking after it at the information booth, but didn't feel like trudging over to the Hyatt for it. It wasn't cheap, either, darn it.
We met Brian and Melissa at the Art Show, and she asked if I could take all her art back with me, not just the three big pieces, and I said sure. It was only two more boxes of stuff, and we'd packed light enough that even the addition of Boo and her things wouldn't be a problem. We cheated and circumvented the whole loading dock chaos by having Albert pull up in front of the Marriott while Brian and I carried the stuff out. Then it was bye-bye to DragonCon.
We drove over to my sister's and stayed the night there. Albert and I had made a concerted effort to get plenty of sleep, but I was still wiped out when I arrived. We'd been talking about going out, but instead my sister, who's a really good cook, made pasta and tomato sauce with shrimp in it. It was really, really good, and we sat on the porch and ate and talked with her new roommate. It turned out to be the roommate's birthday, in fact, so after we ate we went to Bruster's for ice cream. Albert and I split most of a pint of Chocolate Raspberry Truffle on the roommate's recommendation, and it was heavenly.
Our plan was to leave around 10 in the morning, but we got up late, and were therefore already a bit behind when Albert decided to go out to the car and discovered a little snag. My sister has deadbolt locks on her outer doors that require a key to open, and she had, naturally, locked the door on her way to work.... Fortunately, her work is only about five minutes away, so she was able to drive over and spring us. And I got to see her and say goodbye, which is always a bonus. :)
Next stop was Cleveland, where we picked up Boo and headed for home. Boo was, as usual, thrilled to see her Mama and Daddy, but not wanting to leave Grandma. She kept reaching for the ones who weren't holding her, so we had to pass her back and forth for about ten minutes, until she got used to the idea that we were all there.
We got to Nashville around 4:30, and dropped off the art at Melissa's place. I only whacked one painting into the ceiling fan. Sigh. Fortunately, it was the one that didn't have a really expensive frame. I carried the others in practically on my knees, though.
At home, the boys were delighted to see us. They'd only crapped about fifteen billion times outside the three litter boxes we'd left for them. Grr. Still, it's kind of to be expected that when they're allowed to stuff themselves for five days the output will increase proportionally to the input. But it was still good to be home. :)
And so another Dragoncon ends. Until next year....
