Okay... One...two...three...four? Four? Wait, there are four members of SG-1? On screen? Together?! Wheeeeeeeee!
All right, even that particular squee factor aside, I really liked this episode. I was horribly afraid of it being the stereotypical Amazon Episode, but the Hak'tyl were, I thought, a very realistic group of women struggling to preserve their future. I was also fascinated by the further insights into Jaffa culture and the place of women in it. Go Mr. Judge!
Ishta was a pleasant surprise. Given the past history of Guest Babes, I was worried that she'd be another "she's wearing latex and that means the fans will love her!" fiasco, but instead she turned out to be an actual character. There was that one moment when Jack checked her out, but for the most part whether or not she was hot was insignificant to her character. I especially appreciated that Teal'c became attracted to her by talking to her, that they formed a non-sexual bond first. I was a little jumpy at the "I've known her for a few hours and am now spilling my guts," but that was a minor speed bump.
One quibble was that Ishta's rejection of the tretonin after Mala's death and her subsequent remorse over killing a potential ally was a little too quick and too neat given the extremeness of her reaction. It was one place where I could see the framework of the plot showing through. Neith also verged on being a stereotype of the Angry Warrior, but I really, really liked Nesa, and liked that she ended up challenging her sister to live. Really great moment when she called Neith on her promise to protect her no matter what.
Also, I just gotta say: "Powerbar?" I laughed and laughed and laughed and rewound and laughed and laughed and laughed. Maybe I'm just easily amused by penis humor. Also loved the end (despite my inner Jack/Teal'c gal spinning the cogs frantically wondering how this fit in with their Twu Wuuv). When Sam and Daniel turned around and left, I knew Jack was still watching, and sure enough, there he was, with that lovely expression of inquiring interest. I laughed and laughed and laughed....
All in all, I'm very satisfied. Despite the extra work this episode will cause for me. :)
