Dude, if you're looking for a wheel, try your local craigslist first, and see if there's a guild in your area second. And if you do bid on eBay, make sure you know the retail pricing of the item, because things get utterly ridiculous when the bidding heats up. One other place to lurk and check things out is the Spinners & Weavers Housecleaning Pages, as well as the used equipment page at Woodland Woolworks.

Now I wish I hadn't sold the Ashford Traditional, because someone who put this much love into a post about a subject they just came into? Is totally my kind of person. Heh. Have you thought about picking up a spindle while you're pondering a wheel? It's a different experience, but you may learn a lot for fairly inexpensively (in comparision to a wheel).

BTW, getting rid of the poo and britch wool is called "skirting". If you care to read mailing lists, I'd recommend Spindlers and Spin-List on yahoogroups. Whatever you do though, stay away from FiberBuyandTrade. Or FleeceforSale. Because that way lies madness and a giant sucking hole in your bank account. Ask me how! Heh.

I'm about a year into this spinning thing myself, and have learned a surprising amount in this year. If you have any questions, I can try to answer them, or at least can maybe point you toward some resources.
