I love spinning. I do as much spinning on my drop spindle as I do on my spinning wheel (I got an Ashford Traveller for an anniversary gift about 10 years ago, and I adore it).
You might want to look into Babe spinning wheels - they're not decorative, but they are functional and relatively inexpensive. They're made of PVC pipe, which means they're lightweight, and they start somewhere around $150 ($110 for the tabletop version).
I've woven my handspun before, but I've yet to knit with it (I only started knitting in December); I'm looking forward to it. :)
